Readers,
Pavlov here to say: Okay, we get it. You’ve got issues. Daddy ran off when you were little. Momma beats you six ways from Sunday. You are the main target of every bully in your town. You’re a little angsty and like to listen to mellow music and daydream about murder and self-mutilation. Loves, we all have issues, through-and-through, and here’s a helpful bit of advice to you: Get over it.
The world does not revolve around you, no matter how much you will it so. Your problems are not the only problems, and nothing makes you superior to somebody else. But no matter what, you can always find someone to listen, or some outlet, some catharsis as an alternative to some of the stupid things people do. I will never, ever understand how someone could be so weak and so unimaginative as to be driven to a gun, or a knife, or a bomb. When something comes on the television about the kids from Virginia Tech, or Columbine, or this new Cleveland school, and you hear about the shooters offing themselves, and you hear about all the problems they had, or how they were so mentally twisted, but were never given any help, I have no pity. No sympathy. There are always alternatives. Find them. Don’t be weak. Talk to someone. Talk to yourself. Get out. Get away. Run. Walk. Scream. Cry. Write angry words. Make up stories in your head, if you have to, but don’t act upon them.
Nothing excuses taking another human life. Nothing. There is no justification. There is no explaining. No one has that right.
Sincerely,
